UPDATE: The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission has approved CME Group's bitcoin futures contract and will officially launch on December 18, 2017.
The CEO of CME Group, Terry Duffy, made headlines back in October when he announced CME was planning to launch bitcoin futures in the fourth quarter of 2017 as soon as the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission reviews and approves their application. Right when the announcement was made, the price of bitcoin rapidly rose well above $6,400.
Terry Duffy told CNBC today that CME is planning to trade bitcoin futures as early as the second week of December. This must mean that the pending regulatory reviews are doing well and should be approved in the coming weeks.
This is another step in the right direction towards getting bitcoin and cryptocurrencies to the mainstream adoption phase.
