Just a day after the news of Segwit2x being suspended, another recent Bitcoin fork has announced that they are set to launch. In a blog post released today by the Bitcoin Gold team, the Bitcoin Gold full node client will be available for download on November 12, 2017 at 7:00 PM UTC. Furthermore, the BTG blockchain will be live at the same time and blocks will be mineable by users and pools.
The main motivation of the team behind Bitcoin Gold was to try and solve the centralization of mining by decentralizing it and preventing ASICs from mining BTG effectively. Controversy surrounded Bitcoin Gold when it was revealed that the developers had premined Bitcoin Gold for themselves and did not release the code publicly for review.
If you were holding Bitcoin in your wallet or on an exchange during October 24, 2017 when the fork occurred, it would be worth checking to see if you have received any Bitcoin Gold.
